From a teacher whose student had attended Operation School Bell.

"He was also sporting new jeans and a shirt, but the SHOES just put him over the moon. For the last 2 months, his feet had been slipping IN and OUT of shoes that were a tad too big and often were never tied. But today, everything fit. He wasn’t thinking about his weekend with the late night police visit and minimal sleep. He wasn’t thinking about the break-in and how his family will replace items stolen or about how he hadn’t seen his mom much. His grin was ear to ear and to him, everything fit. He ran around on the playground without hesitation, racing past friends and playing tag. He sat during whole group instruction without fiddling with the loose soles of hand-me-downs, because today, everything fit!"

This is just one of 70,000 reasons for what Assistance League of Omaha does.

Dear Assistance League® of Omaha Members and Friends,

Every year since 1975, Assistance League of Omaha has presented our major fundraiser, the Christmas Caravan Tour of Homes. Your support in buying tour tickets, attending our Preview Party, purchasing items at our boutique and bake sale has given us the funds to invite 2000- 4000 school children in need each year to buy warm school clothing as well as fund our six other philanthropic programs including Operation Literacy, Operation Teen Parent, Operation Bear Hug, Assault Survivors Kits, Operation Recovery and ACT/PSAT.

This year, for the first time in our history, we are forced by Covid 19 to reimagine Christmas Caravan. The safety and health of everyone involved with Christmas Caravan is our top priority. However, the needs of all those we serve through our programs are greater than ever, and we sincerely want to be able to continue to help them. Without the money raised, we will be unable to provide clothing to hundreds of children from the metropolitan area with much    needed warm coats and school clothing as well as fund all our other programs.

We need your help. Even though there will be no physical events at Christmas Caravan this year, we hope we can still count on your support. We are asking that you consider donating to Assistance League of Omaha the same amount you would usually spend when you attend Christmas Caravan Events. (Example: $32.00 = 2 tour tickets, $30.00 = 1 tour ticket and lunch at Champions Run, $100 =1 Preview Party ticket ). Many of you who attend the different Christmas Caravan events also make purchases at the Thrift Shop boutique as well at the florists’ boutiques at the homes on tour, and we ask you to consider donating a similar amount this year.

Assistance League of Omaha is a completely volunteer organization with no paid positions which means that, after expenses, all of the money you donate goes to fund our programs. Your donation to Christmas Caravan this year is also 100% tax deductible. Our measure of success is the number of people we help and the quality of our programs and services. In Operation School Bell® alone, we have served over 70,000 children since we began the program.

Thank you in advance for continuing to be part of our fundraising for this year as you have in the past. We can’t offer you a tour of beautifully decorated homes and great boutique shopping, but we can promise you the joyful faces of children thrilled to have much needed new clothes and shoes. What could possibly be a better way to experience the real meaning of Christmas? We look forward to a fabulous Christmas Caravan in 2021, and we hope to see you then!

With sincere appreciation for your continued support,

Betsy McDaniel, President
